How to sign up for
Husky Game Development (HGD) Enterprise
Faculty advisor: Prof. Scott Kuhl

The majority of HGD members should follow these guidelines!
If you think you are in a special situation, have a question, or having difficulty registering, contact the faculty advisor.

If you are a freshman, you are discouraged from joining HGD in your first semester at Michigan Tech.

Students in any major are welcome to participate in HGD. For example, artists are encouraged to join to create digital artwork for games HGD develops. However, if you would like to participate in HGD in a capacity other than an artist or a programmer, you should contact the HGD faculty advisor before you register for the course.

4000-level HGD credits: All HGD courses are one-credit except for the two-credit 4000 level courses. There will be higher expectations of students who are taking the 4000 level courses compared to other students.

Summer credits: If you wish to take HGD credits in the summer, contact the HGD faculty advisor.

Ascending course numbers: The ENT course you sign up for now should be higher than the course number that you signed up for in previous semesters. You may skip course numbers. For example, you could join in the spring of your sophomore year by taking ENT2950 and then take ENT3950 in the fall of your junior year—effectively skipping ENT2960.

Repeating a course: You can’t take the same ENT course number more than once (with the exception of ENT4961).

Scheduling conflicts: You can sign up for another MTU course that occurs at the same time as HGD if you meet the following criteria and contact the HGD faculty advisor:

  1. This is not your first semester participating in HGD.
  2. For every week which you miss the HGD general meeting due to this scheduling conflict, you must commit an hour of additional work for HGD.
  3. You must have contact with your HGD team leader on a weekly basis.

Unenrolled students: Unenrolled students are permitted to attend the HGD general meetings but are not allowed to actually participate in the program. For more information, see the student enrollment and recruiting section in the University Enterprise Operations Manual available at http://www.enterprise. mtu.edu/forms/enterprise_manual.pdf.

Department-specific information

Computer Science department students

  • Software Engineering majors: ENT3950, ENT3960, ENT4950, and ENT4960 (total of 6 credits) can replace the Senior Design Project (CS4791, CS4792, total of 6 credits). See the table on the following page for more information.
  • CS majors with a software engineering concentration need to take 3 credits worth of HGD enterprise courses out of the set of ENT3950, ENT3960, ENT4950, and ENT4960 to replace CS4791. The most efficient way to do this is to take one 3000 level HGD course (1 credit) and ENT 4950 (2 credits). See the table on the following page for more information.
  • CS Technical Electives: All HGD enterprise courses can count as a technical elective toward your CS/CSS/SE degree if it is approved by your advisor.Communication, Culture, and Media majorsCCM majors who participate in HGD should be able to count their credits in your free or approved elective areas. Contact Patty Sotirin for more information.

Non-CS students

Participating in the HGD enterprise may help you meet some of the requirements in your degree program. You should talk to the advisor in your degree program for more information. If participation in HGD gives you additional credit for your degree, please contact the HGD faculty advisor so this document can be updated to include this additional information.

CS department students: Find your situation in the guideline column and sign up for the course on the same line. The prereqs column indicates the prerequisites according to the MTU course registration system. The restrictions column indicates other restrictions imposed by the course registration system. For more information see the official course catalog at: http://www.mtu.edu/catalog/undergraduate/course-descriptions/pdf/undergraduate.pdf

Non-CS department students: Use the chart as described for the CS department students above except that you must determine if it is appropriate to sign up for ENT4900/4910 or ENT4950/4960 in your senior year. You should only sign up for ENT4950/4960 if your degree program recognizes these courses as a type of senior project for your degree. Contact your advisor in your degree program or the HGD faculty advisor for more information.
